Get Active!

August 22, 2011

As my first blog post, I wanted to start with a big picture perspective about the whole topic of fitness. So, your goal today is to GET ACTIVE, whether that means taking the stairs at your office building (instead of the elevator) or parking farther away from a store and walking.  Getting your heart rate up and burning some calories will help you start getting active.  I recently read an article that said that adult obesity rates increased in 16 states in the past year and did not decline in any state! Crazy statistics….Also, it said that Colorado has the lowest obesity rate.  Guess why?? The people who live in Colorado are always active-hiking, biking, walking, skiing, etc. I speak from experience because my sister lives out there and I know she is always hiking, snowboarding or something active.

Your long term goal should be to start getting some cardio and weight training in at least 3 times a week, but like I said, this is just the beginning of your journey and I will help you work up to that! There are numerous benefits of exercising and getting active (sleep better, feel better, etc.) but those specific benefits will be addressed in another post to come soon!

Food for Thought: Take a walk around the block tonight (you burn an average of 4 calories a minute while walking so if you take a 20-30 minute walk, you burn around 100 calories!) and just see how much better you will feel and sleep tonight!
Let the fun begin:)
