Did You Know? Banana Chips

“If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t!”
~from Food Rules by Michael Pollan

I was reading my Shape magazine the other day and came across a little comparison of foods.  This particular one comparing banana chips vs. bananas blew me away!  I thought I’d share it with you since I was quite surprised to find out how unhealthy banana chips really are.

Did you know??

A handful of banana chips have 218 calories and 14g of fat!!

You could have 2 medium bananas instead and be getting 210 calories and only 1g of fat!!

How crazy is that?  The reason there is so much fat in the banana chips is because they are fried.  I don’t eat banana chips often, but it never occurred to me that they are fried and full of fat.  Oftentimes food labels say “dried” banana chips but don’t be fooled, they are usually fried!

Your best bet is to eat the REAL fruit that comes from the banana plant.  It is all natural and loaded with potassium and fiber.  Stick to foods that come from a plant rather than those made in a plant!
