Stepping Stones

February 4, 2014

A few years ago, I remember being at the gym working out and thinking to myself, “What am I doing with my life?”  I was working at an office job I didn’t love and realized I had no passion for what I was spending over 8 hours a day doing.  So, there I was in my mid 20’s trying to figure out what to do about my unrest and unhappiness with my career.  I started talking to a friend and I remember him saying, “You know Julie, all these jobs you’ve been doing, maybe they are stepping stones to something greater in your future?!”

Boy did he have that right!!!  Fast forward a few years and now I can honestly say I’m doing what I feel God designed me to do–helping people pursue a healthier and more active life!  It’s been a gift to train clients everyday and love my job so much it doesn’t feel like a job.  Looking back over the past several years, I can see how each job gave me skills that are helping me as I train clients and run a business.  Since the day my friend talked about stepping stones, I focused on making the most of each day at work–whether I was doing a job I loved or hated.  I could have looked at those tough jobs/times in life as stumbling blocks which would have changed my whole outlook on life and made me more miserable.  Yet, I chose joy despite the hardships, looked for the positive in people and tried to remember that what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger!

I now encourage everyone I come in contact with to pursue figuring out what they’re passionate about because that will give them purpose.  Life is about the journey and not the destination.  God has a much bigger plan than we can imagine!
