Lips and Hips

“A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!”

This is a clever little quote I remember my grandfather saying all the time growing up. For some reason I am reminded of this quite often when I pick up my fork. But really, think about how true it is! We enjoy eating for such a short time and then it can either pack on pounds, help you lose weight or stay fit.  What do you find yourself doing most often–eating for the short satisfaction and moment on the lips or thinking about how that food will stay on your hips for a lifetime?

I know that eating is often an emotional event–we eat when we are happy, sad, stressed, excited and bored.  I tell my clients every single day food is just fuel. We have to learn to have self control and say no even when everything in us is screaming “EAT IT!”  But do not listen to that voice…we have to fight the emotions.  The junk food, sweets, soda, etc. is not worth the lifetime on the hips!

I am reminded of another quote I love: “Choose what you want most over what you want right now!”  Keep your long term goals in mind and remember what you’re working out for and working so hard to achieve.  It’s just not worth the short term enjoyment!  Your health is priority and if you don’t have your health, what do you have?

So, choose the healthy, nutritious and living food such as lean proteins, fruits, veggies, healthy fats that will improve your health.  Say NO to that piece of cake, candy bar, cookie, candy and soda tempting you all too often.  You don’t want that stuff staying on your hips for a lifetime!!!
