YOU Are What YOU Eat!

Have you ever heard the saying “You are what you eat”?  The truth of the matter is that what you put in your body ultimately leads to how you look.  You can either fuel your body with healthy foods like fruits, veggies, lean protein, complex carbs and good fats that will keep you slim and trim OR you can stuff your face with fattening foods filled with sugar, calories and simple carbs. In our American culture of convenience, quick, on the go meals, we are ruining our bodies and our health.  Like this quote says, “Don’t be fast, cheap, easy or fake” when you’re choosing what you eat.

Here’s the kicker–not only will you show it on the outside if you’re eating junk food, but you will feel it inside.  If you’re feeling sluggish, tired, weak or grumpy, it just may be due to the junk food you eat.  Garbage in, garbage out right?! Your quality of life is also directly related to how you eat.  I know the days I eat processed sugar or have dessert, I feel jittery, weak and sluggish all day!  Days I avoid all added sugar, I think more clearly, have more energy and my workouts are much better.  Try going a few days without added sugar and see if you can tell a difference.  Lately my goal is to go all week (Monday to Friday) with no added sugar/dessert/sweets/etc.  I can only have a treat on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday).  Long term it works for me because I know once I get to the weekend, I can enjoy something sweet but during the week I need to keep it clean! Just try it and you will be amazed how different you feel!

One other interesting point is that oftentimes the saying should be “You are what you ate 2 weeks ago!”  If you go on vacation, usually the first week back the scale doesn’t show much difference.  However, I’ve seen over and over with clients it takes 2 weeks for the scale to show weight gain or loss.  The key to remember is that weight loss/muscle gain takes consistency and even if you don’t see the immediate weight change on the scale, just give it a few weeks and you will absolutely see and feel the change!!

It’s up to you what you choose to put in your body, but just make sure you remember you are what you eat and it will clearly show on the outside and affect how you feel inside.  Choose wisely!!
