Body In Motion…

August 19, 2014

“An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.  An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”   ~Newton’s First Law

You’ve probably heard this at some point–maybe during a science class or on a Celebrex commercial on TV.  I do believe this statement to be true when it comes to fitness and activity! The more you sit on the couch, the more lazy you get. The more you move and get active, the more you will stay active.

I’ve had so many people say to me that as soon as a big life event happened (marriage, babies, job changes, etc) or something changed their workout routine, they lost motivation and have stayed inactive. This is no excuse for staying “at rest.” You need to just get back up, lace your shoes and get active! The only way to change your course is to fight for what you want.  If you’re miserable because you feel terrible and can’t sleep or move, maybe it’s time to get moving and get active.

Find an activity you enjoy–maybe you like to hike, ride your bike or play tennis. Pick something that will motivate you and get back to it.  Start small and work up.  If you used to enjoy running, well start walking around the block every morning.  When you’re feeling better, start jogging for a minute and walking for a minute and alternate your intervals.  Once you’re feeling really good, jog for a minute and sprint for a minute.  All the sudden you will be a runner again and feel like you’re living again–feeling better, sleeping better, have more energy and will be a happier person.  You’re the only one who can take care of the body you’ve been given and we only get ONE.  Don’t waste your life by sitting on the coach feeling miserable!!  Life is meant to be lived and our bodies were designed to move 🙂
