Thinking Spring

If you’re like me, you’re starting to think about spring! I know I’m VERY ready for the weather to warm up, see the trees blooming and have more daylight.  With spring also comes the flood of thoughts about getting fit and ready for bathing suit season. AND I’m here to help!  This past Sunday I had fun doing a jump rope (and other jump exercises) workout with one of the news anchors on Fox Good Day Charlotte morning show.  Here’s a clip for you to enjoy: http://www.fox46charlotte.com/clip/11198060/undefined

According to Shape.com, “Jumping rope burns more than 10 calories a minute while strengthening your legs, butt, shoulders, and arms. And it doesn’t take long to reap major rewards. You can burn more than 200 calories in two, 10-minute sessions each day (that’s 1,000 calories a week)!”  Jumping rope is such a great full body cardio workout and you can do it anywhere.  Here’s a jump rope workout you can do from home (or while traveling) to burn some serious calories.  Take it outside when the weather warms up and get some vitamin D while you jump.

  • Warm up: (Repeat 2x)
    • Air Squats for 30 seconds
    • Line Hops for 30 seconds (Place jump rope in a line on the ground and jump forward/backward over the rope)
    • Jumping Jacks for 30 seconds
  • Workout: (Go thru circuit 2x)
    • Regular Jumping rope (45 seconds)
    • Jump Squats with no rope (45 seconds)
    • Butt Kicks while jumping rope (45 seconds)
    • Jump Lunges with no rope (45 seconds)
    • High Knees while jumping rope (45 seconds)

You should be sweating and feel winded after this quick 10 minute workout!  To start, you may want to do 30 seconds for each exercise and then work up as you build up endurance.  As you advance, do each exercise for 1 minute and go through the circuit 3 or 4 times. Have fun and enjoy putting a “spring” in your workout!
