Feed Disease or Fight It!

I recently read this quote “Every time we eat or drink we are either feeding disease or fighting it” and it really resonated with me! What we put in our bodies impacts how we feel, our energy levels and our long-term health. I’ve realized as a personal trainer and health coach that most people have no idea the power of food (both good and bad)!  There is truly a direct connection between food and how your body operates, how your immune system fights off disease and your energy levels throughout the day.

If you’ve been feeling sluggish lately, could it be from the sugar or sodium filled meal you just ate?? Have you been drinking water or filling up on sugary drinks?? When was the last time you ate a big salad full of just veggies and protein (not all the cheese, croutons or rich dressing)? Do you know the power of what we put in our body?  The nutrients we eat and vitamins in our diet impact the strength of our immune system. It’s important to be eating fruits and veggies and food packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants so you keep your immune system strong and fighting off any sickness. If you find yourself getting sick often, it could be due to a weakened immune system.

Excess fat is also a breeding ground for cancer so clearly it is important to reduce any extra weight! If you’re eating too much (huge portions) or macronutrients (carbs, fat and protein) are out of balance, you’re bound to gain weight which leads to long-term health problems. Even if you’re not having any health issues yet, doesn’t mean issues aren’t bound to creep in. Our bodies are incredible and fight off disease but this won’t go on forever.  It’s time to take your health seriously, reduce your risk of disease and choose foods (and drinks) that will fight disease.  Don’t take your health for granted…If we don’t have our health, what do we have?!
