The Obstacle is the WAY!

March 15, 2016

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend a leadership conference for health coaches and it was one of the most powerful weekends of my life! Gathering with around 1000 other coaches who all share my passion for a healthier life and desire to grow as an individual so we can help others, meant walking away with many life-changing tools, perspectives and skills I’ll be forever grateful for.

I’ve finally had some time to process the many takeaways, but I think that one that has resonated with me the most is: “Seek growth. Embrace obstacles as the way.” For the past year I’ve had the opportunity to coach clients with a program that not only teaches clients how to develop healthy nutrition habits, but it provides the tools and opportunity to live life to the fullest, choosing your lifestyle that reflects your healthy habits and even become a coach for others.  It’s been one of the most rewarding years of my life but I can honestly say that it would not be SO sweet if it wasn’t for the obstacles along the way.

I know how wonderful it feels to live a life that’s on purpose, where each day is a gift and the rewarding moments outshine all negatives. I can say this because I’ve lived through some pretty tough “storms” and trials along the way and have come out a stronger, more positive and “on purpose” person! From failing a financial exam that you thought was going to take you down the career path you had spent 4 years in college working towards; losing your well-paying job during a downturn in the economy; learning to run a business on your own to not knowing whether you would be able to pay your bills–I can honestly say I am thankful for each one of these obstacles in my life. These times have grown me as a person, they have molded me into a more understanding and compassionate individual and they have given me the confidence to know that anything is possible if I just go for it.

I now treasure each day as a coach and trainer because I know what it’s like to wish away long days in an office feeling like your personality is shutting down. I now jump out of bed each morning because I know how miserable it felt to wake up dreading a mundane, repetitive schedule. I now desire to make every person’s day a little brighter when I meet someone because I know what it’s like to have a tough day. I’ve learned that the obstacles are the way to a more free and fulfilled life. I also know there will be obstacles ahead, but when you have the perspective that “the bigger the obstacle, the bigger the gift” you suddenly don’t see them as a huge boulder in the road but more like a little pebble along the path. What’s holding you back from the life you want, from achieving the goals you’ve set or taking the leap to make your dreams a reality? Don’t let the potential obstacles stop YOU! Instead choose to embrace them and just watch what can happen!
