Eat Less Sugar:: You’re Sweet Enough Already

June 14, 2016

Did you know June is National Candy Month? Nope, me either until they mentioned it on Good Morning America the other day. I had to laugh (cringe more like it) as the news anchors joked about how much candy they eat each day and then they gave some startling statistics: The average American eats 22 teaspoons per day (9.5 teaspoons or less is recommendation), 3 pound of sugar each week and consumes about 500 calories per day just from added sugar!!! 🙁 Check out the details here:
After hearing this about National Candy Month, I realized I’ve been eating more sugar than normal the past couple weeks. Yikes…how did that happen?  Well, after thinking about it a little more, it hit me!!!! When I went to the beach for Memorial Day, I had more sugar and desserts over the weekend than I probably have in about a month combined. Put sugar in me and it’s like a DRUG–I CANNOT stop!!!!  Do you relate?
Studies show that sugar is as addictive as Cocaine! It stimulates the same pleasure center of the brain just like drugs.  The more you have, the more you crave and NEED to get your “fix” so you continue to eat more and more. That’s scary! No wonder everything in the aisles of the grocery store are always on sale–to keep us hooked on our sugar filled sodas, cookies and candy. If you haven’t seen the documentary “Fed Up” you need to check it out and watch it with your kids ( Our country is in real trouble.

So, for me it means cutting out all desserts and added sugar.  Get it out of my house and then I’m not tempted. Get it out of my system and I feel like a new person!!!  Maybe a good plan for you too?  Try it–cut back on soda, sugary sports drinks, desserts, candy, chocolate and see how much better you feel (after the withdrawal headaches go away)! Take it a day at a time, then a week at a time and keep making improvements. YOU and your health are worth it 🙂
